Fiber in the Forest Retreat

Fiber in the Forest Retreat

Wet Felted Summer Landscape Table Runner

Join me for a wet-felting  adventure where inspiration flows from the nature all around you and the camaraderie of fellow felters!

Come and enjoy three days of fiber fun at the woodsy Camp Myrtlewood, a scenic, rustic retreat located in the Coast Range off Highway 42, 40 miles west of I-5! Along with the luscious greenery of this magical place, music from Myrtle Creek, hiking, relaxing, and sharing stories with other fiber lovers, join me in making a wet felted summer landscape.

Together, we’ll design and create a vibrant, one-of-a-kind table runner that captures the joyful colors of spring and summer. You’ll begin with a rainbow of soft corriedale and merino wool to layout your piece in any design you'd like. You could try a wildflower hillscape, a summer lake surrounded by fluffy sheep, or a simple abstract of spring colors! Specially-made delicious blends and bling batts, art yarn, silk sari bits, shiny viscose, and silk hankies will be on hand to bring your piece to life.

By the end of this 3-day retreat workshop, you’ll have not just a unique hand-felted table runner, but new friendships and fresh inspiration to last you all summer!

Open Air Gallery

Bring your homespun, handwoven, knitted, felted, or otherwise handcrafted creations for all to admire. All participants will get to exhibit their wares in the Open Air Gallery for everyone to enjoy. Each item should be labeled with the artist's name and a description of the techniques and fibers used.

Meals & Lodging

Dormitory lodging with bunk beds is available. Bring your own bedding and towels for hot showers. There are 12 RV Spaces with electric and water hook-ups, as well as plenty of tent space. Sorry, but pets are not permitted.

Meals are especially delicious and include vegetarian options. I talked with Reed, the head chef, and was excited to hear he uses as much local goodies as possible. Like eggs and veggies from the farms up the road! Yum!

The spaces are super cozy and include fireplaces and comfy couches.

Costs & Retreat Schedule

The $525 price includes participation in the workshop, room, and board and is payable upon registration on the Eugene Textile Center website. The $45 materials fee is paid directly to me at the time of the workshop. Classes start on Friday morning at 9:00 am and continue through Sunday afternoon.

Felting Schedule

Day 1 – Dream & Design: Imagine, sketch, use a photo or available print outs of summer scenes that I will bring to dream up your design. Enjoy the day laying out your design in wool while enjoying the relaxed flow of creativity and connection.

Day 2 – Felting & Fulling: Rub, roll, and felt your design into a strong, lasting work of art.

Day 3 – Finishing Touches: Refine your runner with needle felting, stitching, and ironing to give it polish and dimension. Trim the edges or leave it organic.

What to Expect: This is a physically active workshop that involves standing for extended periods and vigorous rolling with your hands, arms, and upper body.

What to Wear: Bring an apron to catch water drips, and wear comfy shoes. Sleeves that are ¾ length, rollable, or ones you don’t mind getting damp work best.

What to Bring: All materials and tools will be ready for you, but if you have a favorite felting tool, like a ball brause or felting stone, feel free to bring it!

All skill levels welcome
