Fiber in the Forest: A 3-Day Fiber Retreat
May 13th - May 16th!
Camp Myrtlewood, Oregon
Join me for a wet-felting adventure where inspiration flows from the nature all around you and the camaraderie of fellow fiber lovers!
Surrounded by the lush forests and beautiful scenery of Camp Myrtlewood, we'll take our time exploring color, texture, and design as we create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind 6' x 2' table runner or wall hanging inspired by nature. Think wildflower meadows, lush forests, mountain landscapes, or whatever colors and designs speak to you!
Our Materials
We'll start with natural Corriedale and a rainbow of Merino wool, then add a luscious assortment of blended wools, bling batts, art yarns, sari silk fibers, viscose, silk hankies, pre-felts, and plenty of other goodies to bring our creations to life.
What We’ll Explore
Along the way, you’ll learn new flower techniques to create blossoms, petals, and leaves. This year you will get to explore making surface design elements to add texture and dimension to your felt. Whether you're new to to the retreat or returning for another round of fiber fun, there will be plenty to learn and experiment with. I'll guide you every step of the way!
Inspiration & Play
To get your creative juices flowing, I'll bring felted samples and design ideas. Come with a plan or a favorite photo to inspire you, or simply bring your love of fiber and a sense of adventure!
With three whole days to play, experiment, and enjoy the felting process, we'll have plenty of time to let our pieces evolve, learn from each other, and enjoy the wonderful company of fellow felters. By the end of our retreat, you'll take home a beautiful piece of felted art, new felting skills, and fresh inspiration to last you all summer.
All skill levels are welcome!

Open Air Gallery
Bring your homespun, handwoven, knitted, felted, or otherwise handcrafted creations for all to admire. All participants will get to exhibit their wares in the Open Air Gallery for everyone to enjoy. Each item should be labeled with the artist's name and a description of the techniques and fibers used.
Meals & Lodging
Dormitory lodging with bunk beds is available. Bring your own bedding and towels for hot showers. There are 12 RV Spaces with electric and water hook-ups, as well as plenty of tent space. Sorry, but pets are not permitted.
Meals are especially delicious and include vegetarian options. I talked with Reed, the head chef, and was excited to hear he uses as much local goodies as possible. Like eggs and veggies from the farms up the road! Yum!
The spaces are super cozy and include fireplaces and comfy couches. Bring your knitting, crocheting, drop spindle or other craft to work on after class.
Costs & Retreat Schedule
The cost is $525 and includes participation in the workshop, room, and board and is payable upon registration on the Eugene Textile Center website. The $60 materials fee is paid directly to me at the time of the workshop. Classes start on Friday morning at 9:00 am and continue through Sunday afternoon.
Felting Schedule
Day 1 – Dream & Design: Imagine, sketch, use a photo or available print outs of summer scenes and wall hanging inspo that I will bring to dream up your design. Enjoy the day laying out your design in wool while enjoying the relaxed flow of creativity and connection.
Day 2 – Felting & Fulling: Rub, roll, and felt your design into a strong, lasting work of art.
Day 3 – Finishing Touches: Refine your piece with needle felting, stitching, and ironing to give it polish and dimension. Trim the edges or leave them organic.
What to Expect: This is a physically active workshop that involves standing for extended periods and vigorous rolling with your hands, arms, and upper body.
What to Wear: Bring an apron to catch water drips, and wear comfy shoes. Sleeves that can be rolled up work best.
What to Bring: All materials and tools will be ready for you, but if you have a favorite felting tools, like a ball brause or felting stone, feel free to bring it! We’ll be adding needle felting elements, so if you have those supplies, bring those, too!
