Layered Landscape: Painting with Wool

Layered Landscape: Painting with Wool

January 24th, 2026, 10:00am - 3:00pm

In my home studio in South Eugene.

Get cozy and creative in this half-day workshop focused on building a layered, wet-felted landscape full of color and depth. Using your choice of photo or a painting for inspiration if you’d like, we’ll slow down and explore how fibers can create the layers of color, light, and perspective that make a landscape come alive.

We’ll begin with a fluffy base of Corriedale wool, then build layer upon layer of color with merino—soft skies, rolling fields, distant trees—coaxing the fibers into a “canvas.” Once the landscape takes shape, we’ll add character with embellishment fibers, followed by a bit of needle felting for a lovely texture.

We’ll also have time for optional hand stitching to add special touches like fences, apples on a tree, or other fun details. Refine your piece, or smooth things out with a fabric shaver or iron.

This class is perfect for beginners and experienced felters. There’s no end to playing with wool and color!

Cost: $70 (includes all tools and materials)

Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm (or until 4:00 if you'd like to refine or add stitching)

Location: My cozy studio—complete with hot tea, coffee, and, of course, snacks.

What to Expect: This is a physically active class that involves some standing and vigorous rubbing and rolling using your hands and arms.

What to Wear: It’s handy to wear an apron to catch the water drips and ¾ sleeves, or sleeves you can roll up. Wear comfy shoes.

What to Bring: Snacks or lunch. There is a fridge and microwave available.

Pssst…This project is a little preview of what we’ll be making at the Fiber in the Forest retreat this coming May with the Eugene Textile Center.
